Charter Season is Right Around the Corner!

Just a reminder….the Impulse and Blackjack are open for booking and dates are filling up fast!  You definitely don’t want to be standing on dry land when the fishing gets good….

After receiving a bunch of requests from people who wanted to go fishing but didn’t want to go solo, we created this charter-sharing blog to connect fisherman.  The Impulse holds up to 6 passengers and the Blackjack up to 4, but if you don’t have that many and don’t want to go solo, by all means, use this blog as a forum to connect with others.  You’d be surprised how many other anglers are out there who are in the same situation.   So, put up a post, get together and get out on the water!


Bloodydecks Blood Drive Dates Announced!

Hello and Happy New Year to you all!

Thus far, 2011 has brought great things to Dana Landing…thank goodness for the good weather we’ve seen in the last few weeks.  Do you think the rain is finally gone? I certainly hope so!  I wish is was a bit warmer (80 degrees this weekend was nice!) but the cold temps are a bit more bearable when the sunshine is out….

Big news today….Bloodydecks announced their blood drive dates for the year!  Mark your calendars for February 19th, August 27th and October 22nd.  For those of you who’ve come out before, you know what  a fun event this truly is.  Besides the yummy food cooking on the grill and the good friends gathered out behind Dana Landing, donating blood is a great (and easy!) cause to support.  So definitely make plans to attend at least one of these blood drives….I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Cooking Your Spiny Lobsters

Now that lobster season is upon us (and hopefully you are catching a few), the inevitable question arises, “What’s the best way to cook the lobsters?”

While doing  that very Google search of my own, I stumbled upon this recipe.  I haven’t tried it yet, but it sounded too tasty not to pass along!  So happy cooking and if you try it out, I’d love to hear your results

Ingredients

  • 6 California spiny lobsters
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red onion
  • 1 teaspoon chopped thyme leaves
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons white or red wine vinegar
  • Handful of fruit wood chips, such as apple or cherry wood, soaked in water for 30 minutes

Directions

Submerge live lobsters in boiling water for 2 minutes. Remove from water. When cool enough to handle, remove heads from tails. With large knife, cut tails in half lengthwise. Place cut tails in large mixing bowl and toss with garlic, onion, thyme, olive oil and vinegar. Let marinate at room temperature for about 30 minutes.

Preheat a charcoal grill to medium-high heat. Once fire is hot, scatter fruit wood on top and allow to burn. As soon as the wood has turned to coal, place lobster tail halves on grill, meat side down. Cook until shell turns a lighter shade of red, about 3 to 5 minutes. Turn lobster tails and cook for an additional 3 minutes or until the meat begins to pull away from the shell.

Remove lobsters from grill. Place on platter and pour remaining marinade from bowl over finished tails.

130 lb Bluefin caught up at 22nd Street Landing!

Congrats to Steve-O Harris and the Freedom!

Steve-O Harris was the lucky angler who landed this nice 130 lb. bluefin aboard the Freedom out of 22nd Street Landing on their Labor Day weekend special trip.  Steve pinned on a mackerel on a 5/0 circle ring hook, with 50 lb. pink yozuri flourocarbon.  This is the biggest fish of the season for the Freedom and Steve-O’s lifetime best.  The Freedom will be adding 1-1/2 trips to their Fall schedule to fish the tuna and Cortes Bank.  Be sure to check out their website at www.freedomsportfishing.com for an up to date schedule.
